The following information is important and should be read before you proceed any further:

VCTs are not suitable for everyone. If you have any doubt whether a VCT is suitable for you, you should obtain expert advice from your professional adviser.

VCTs invest in smaller, possibly unquoted companies that can carry additional risks and should therefore be bought as a longer term investment of 5 years or more.

The 30% tax relief is awarded for the purchase of new shares in VCTs as an incentive to invest in smaller, younger companies. It does not apply to shares that are purchased in the secondary market which could make them less attractive than newly issued VCT shares. VCT shares from new offerings post April 2006 must be held for a minimum of five years to keep the tax benefits.

The fact that a share owned by a VCT is traded on the AIM or OFEX stock market does not guarantee it's liquidity. The spread between the buying and selling price of such companies’ shares may be wide and thus the mid-market price used for valuation may not be achievable in the event of sale.
